In 1985 Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana set out to create a fashion design house that would put out the best in clothing, sunglasses, purses, and accessories. Over the course of the next 20 years the company achieved its goals and built a loyal consumer base all across Europe. So great was their success that their 2005 turnover came in at just under €600 million.
The designer's original line was known simply as Dolce&Gabbana (without the space) and focused mainly on high end clothing, footwear, and accessories. The company dabbled somewhat in watches, but not too much. They later began the second line known as D&G; a line that is considered less flamboyant and less costly than the original line. It is from D&G that we get the company's luxury watches. They are so popular in the UK that many in the industry believe they are the best luxury brand in that country.
The Binda Group
In order to stabilize their wristwatch business and establish a name in Europe, D&G joined with the world-famous Binda group in 2000. Binda is known around the world as being one of the best Italian makers of watches, jewellery, and leather products. The company owns subsidiaries all over the world and sells products under its own brands as well as providing manufacturing services for companies like D&G.
By hooking up with Binda, D&G was able to establish several lines of its own under brand names like Antibes, BB, Dorian, Flock, Genteel, Jimmy, Martin and Nikki. D. and D&G brand watches are now available in Europe, the United States, Canada, South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia. Thanks to their affiliation with Binda, D&G is one of the premier names of Italian watches.
Sales Preferences
The two most common sales methods for D&G's watch lines are stand-alone boutiques and kiosks. The company maintains dozens of stand-alone boutiques in major cities like New York, Toronto, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Shanghai. However, D&G has found it more profitable to operate kiosks within the confines of up-scale retailers. For example, they maintain kiosks at high end department stores such as Lord and Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom.
If you live in an area where no kiosks or boutiques exist, no worries; D&G watches can also be found online through various high end retailers. You'll be able to find the same quality items online that you do it any boutique or kiosk. You'll probably even find them at better prices to boot. To find an online retailer simply do an Internet search on D&G watches.
New Arrivals
What many D&G fans most appreciate about the company is that they launch new brands and models with every changing season. That means if you're so inclined, you could have a new watch from their fall collection and then turn around and purchase one from their winter collection a few months later. These constant new arrivals add flair and spice to D&G's marketing efforts and keep loyal customers coming back for more.
For many of the world's fashionistas wristwatches are more accessories and fashion statements then they are timepieces. D&G understands that and puts out products to meet that need. They have become one of the world's premier names in wristwatches, providing their customers with chic elegance for one season and vibrant energy for the next. They are both a classic Italian watchmaker and a modern European trendsetter at the same time.
